Semana 23

Semana 23

I feel very blessed to have the truths of eternity in my life.  I feel strongly that God is in charge and willing to give us revelation; all we have to do is ask and act to receive it.  This week, I have been blessed to really do the Lord’s work.  I was nervous going into a lesson with a new family.  I felt the pressure to do everything I could to not get in the way of the Spirit, and to teach clearly and with power.  The Lord helped us to be able to teach with their returned-missionary friend (he just happened to be there!) and in a member’s house.  The couple wants to be married and baptized at the end of July!  Se llaman Nicole y Aldrair y su hijita de 1 añito se llama Kaydi.  (Their names are Nicole and Aldrair and they have a little one-year-old daughter named Kaydi.) We got to teach about what Christ did for us out of His pure love.

En doctrina y convenios seccion 19 dice (In Doctrine & Covenants section 19, it reads):

  1. For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;
  2. But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;
  3. Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—
  4. Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men.

What do you feel for Jesus Christ?  And how can we show our gratitude for all that He suffered for us?

En Alma capitulo 7 dice (in Alma chapter 7 it reads):

11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.

14 Now I say unto you that ye must repent, and be born again; for the Spirit saith if ye are not born again ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world, who is mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness.

15 Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism.

After all that He’s done for us, He asks us two things: repent and be baptized.  We show our love and gratitude for His gift by keeping the commandments.  One of the commandments is called the law of chastity, that we should not have sexual relations outside of marriage.  What can you do to keep this commandment?

“Casarnos? “ (Marry each other?) they both said in unison.  Yes!

God’s plan for our families is not just until death do we part, but to be together forever, and that requires making sacred promises with God and our spouses in his holy temples and being sealed by a possessor of the holy priesthood power of God.

(Sofia (9 yrs), the daughter of recent converts Miriam and Randhi Martinez, accepted the invitation to be baptized on July 8th.  Now her dad, Randhi, has the authority to baptize her.  Eternal families –  the gospel blesses families!  Mayumi is preparing to be baptized this Saturday.)  Sunday we taught her and again expained the story of the first vision with Joseph Smith and at the end asked her what was Joseph Smith’s question? After some silence she said timidly, “cual iglesia?” (“which church?”)  We were surprised and she was so proud of herself too.  It’s really hard for her to understand and remember, but she tries so hard.  She has expressed that she loves church because it feels like God is sitting next to her the whole time.  The people at her school are not always kind.  So for her, the Holy Ghost is like a non-judgmental, completely trustworthy, good friend.  He should be like that for us all.  Also, the Lord helped us to have two really important, spirit-filled lessons with recent converts who have not been coming to church and are dealing with some trials: Julio Cesar y Tony.  I felt strongly the gratitude I have for the plan of salvation. Also, we were able to help care for the elderly mom (Maria) of a member, with her non-member sister (Mercedes) this morning.  We let her sister choose which talk to read aloud from the General Conference Liahona and she chose “El Glorioso Plan de Nuestro Dios” (“Our Father’s Glorious Plan”).  That was exactly the message that I wanted to share with her, about God’s plan for us.   The Lord is in charge, the Holy Ghost guides us to feel His love.  I am so grateful for a Savior who is a finisher, who did it because He said He would.  I want to be like that every day with my goals.

Questions for you:

  1. What is the conversion factor for fahrenheit and centigrade? (I don’t remember if that’s the right word. In Spanish its “centigrados”.) I never know what to say when people ask how hot does it get in your part? (Note: her math mom came to the rescue on this one)
  2. What is your favorite Family Home Evening game? The more ideas the better; the members always ask for more ideas.

These messages have been in my heart:

“Do I Believe?” by Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson

She said:

“Think for just a minute about the profound claims we make as a religion. We believe that the same Church Jesus Christ established while on the earth has been restored once again by a prophet called of God in our time and that our leaders hold the same power and authority to act in God’s name that ancient Apostles held. It is called the priesthood of God. We claim that through this restored authority, we can receive saving ordinances, such as baptism, and enjoy the purifying and refining gift of the Holy Ghost to be with us at all times. We have apostles and prophets leading and directing this Church through priesthood keys, and we believe that God speaks to His children through these prophets.

We also believe that this priesthood power makes it possible to make covenants and receive ordinances in holy temples that will someday enable us to return to the presence of God and live with Him forever. We also claim that, through this power, families can be bound together for eternity when couples enter the new and everlasting covenant of marriage in sacred buildings that we believe are literally the houses of God. We believe that we can receive these saving ordinances not only for ourselves but also for our ancestors who lived on the earth without having the chance to participate in these essential saving ordinances. We believe we can perform ordinances for our ancestors by proxy in these same holy temples.

We believe that, through a prophet and the power of God, we have received additional scriptures, adding to the testimony of that in the Bible declaring that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.

We claim that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the kingdom of God and the only true Church on the earth. It is called the Church of Jesus Christ because He stands at the head; it is His Church, and all these things are possible because of His atoning sacrifice.

We believe that these distinguishing features can be found in no other place or organization on this earth. As good and sincere as other religions and churches are, none of them have the authority to provide the ordinances of salvation that are available in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We have a knowledge of these things, but do we believe them? If these things are true, then we have the greatest message of hope and help that the world has ever known. Believing them is a matter of eternal significance for us and for those we love.”

Una familia Dios me dio;

la amo de verdad,

y yo con ella quiero ̮estar

por la eternidad.
Eternas pueden ser las familias

por el divino plan.

Yo quiero heredar

el celestial hogar

con la mía por la ̮eternidad,

por toda la eternidad.
Quiero ̮esforzarme desde hoy

por ser digno ante Dios

para hacer convenios en

el templo del Señor.
Eternas pueden ser las familias

por el divino plan.

Yo quiero heredar

el celestial hogar

con la mía por la ̮eternidad,

por toda la eternidad.

(I have a fam’ly here on earth.

They are so good to me.

I want to share my life with them through all eternity.

Fam’lies can be together forever

Through Heav’nly Father’s plan.

I always want to be with my own family,

And the Lord has shown me how I can.

The Lord has shown me how I can.

While I am in my early years,

I’ll prepare most carefully,

So I can marry in God’s temple for eternity.

Fam’lies can be together forever

Through Heav’nly Father’s plan.

I always want to be with my own family,

And the Lord has shown me how I can.

The Lord has shown me how I can.)
