Feliz dia de la madre! (Happy Mother’s Day!)
Julio Cesar Ordoñez was baptized on Saturday! His testimony has grown so much, he went to the church two hours early for his baptismal service! Luckily we saw him as he was walking to the church and were able to walk with him to find the keys to open the building. He had really struggled with his baptismal date and confirmation date because it was Mother’s Day weekend and his mother lives about 6 hours away. What’s more, he didn’t know his mom growing up, just in the past few months he found her. But right before his baptism he told us, “retroceder nunca rendirme jamas”. I’m pretty sure that that means that his testimony/his decision to be baptized is stronger than the darts of the adversary.
Tonny is the next investigator we are helping towards baptism on the 27th of May. He is a 50-year-old single man, living with his parents and siblings. He is also growing in his testimony, coming to church early for two weeks now. He has lots of good questions and sometimes we have to help him refocus by explaining our purpose and focusing on the importance of keeping commitments. Also Ara (13-year-old young woman) and Dante (her father) have been coming to church as a family for two weeks now. This is a miracle because, before, Dante was so pleased to have us teach his daughter, but didn’t want to change himself or go to church. Now, he is reading more in the Book of Mormon, willing to listen to us, and coming to church. (We also found out that he owns and has read all of the Doctrine and Covenants! He likes to learn about different religions.) We are hoping to have June 10th as a goal for them to be baptized.
I’ve been studying about Testimony this week. I love this part of True to the Faith:
“Your Heavenly Father will bless you according to the righteous desires of your heart and your efforts to do His will. Speaking to a group of people who did not yet have testimonies of the gospel, Alma taught: ‘If ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.’ (Alma 32:27)”
It is so important to continue to act upon our beliefs (read the scriptures daily, pray sincerely, repent daily, serve our families, keep the Sabbath day holy) to continually nourish the tree of our testimony. There are about 400 less active members in our ward and I think that this is the key to always enjoying the blessings of being active in the church – continual nourishment. I love you!!!! Take some time to care for your spirit today!
